God the Powerfull

Going over the Christmas story we find that God provides in so many was.

We find Mary having to make a long journey being very pregnant. We find the baby being born in an unsantary enviroment in a time when birth fiatalities were high. We find a cural king ready to kill all the babies in a town.

Through all this and many more things we find God does provide. He is there for the people who trust him and are doing his will. It may not be in big measures all the time. But it is through the many small things that God works through at a alarming rate.

God help us to trust you!

Musings

I believe God is in the constant process of changing us. Constantly trying to get us to give up the stuff we cling to and give it back to him. Whether it is money, family, success, history.

The very limits of our capacity to remember, to store stuff is proof enough to me that these things will disappear and should never be an end to themselves. God is the beginning and the end. He is the one worth knowing and then the rest falls into place.

Someone once asked me what they should do (ie. planning for the future). I asked if they had asked God. They said yes and didn't get an answer. So after they changed where they were going in life. I believe for the better.

I have come across this as well. How do you make choices where God doesn't give a clear answer? I believe we have to try to make the best choice we can given the circumstance but I believe we should give it to God first.

C.S. Lewis talks about that our very "demanding" for an answer is maybe what keeps God us from hearing God. Maybe we need to learn to listen better, but I believe if we trust God, he is there changing our future for the better even if we can't hear him.

Maybe our problem why our projects go over budget, and delayed is not because we lack smart people but because we lack respect and listening.

I'm reallying liking this latest  book from C.S. Lewis. I've heard the argument before from Eugène N. Marais stated in his book "The Soul of the White Ant" that the greatest proof that there is a God that in world of competition, death, and pain we look for love, peace, and justice. C.S. Lewis along similar lines argues that our reason and moral reason are the greatest proof that there is a God.

"The Screwtape Letters"

I have come across another interesting idea proposed by C.S. Lewis

It's the idea that Satan is wanting us to become so focused on our selves that we forget about real pleasures, real truth. God on the other hand wants us to focus on him and it turn return to us the very things we gave to him. Satan wants us to focus on the future and what really can not be ("nearly all vises are rooted in the future"). ie worries about the future .. so that we do not act today. God wants us to act. Wants us to enjoy the now (which is an action). C.S lewis talking as Satan "We want a whole race perpetually in pursuit of the rainbow's end, never hones, nor kind, nor happy now, but always using as mere fuel wherwith to heap the alter of the future every real gift which is offered them in the Present." God wants us to "to bring the man to a state of mind in which he could design the best cathedral in the world, and know it to be the best, and rejoice in the fact, without being any more (or less) or otherwise glad at having done it had he would be if it had been done be another" "He wants to kill their animal self-love as soon as possible; but it is His long-term policy, I fear, to restore to them a new kind of self love -- a charity and gratitude for all selves, including their own when they have really learned to love their neighbours as themselves, they will be allowed to love themselves as their neighbours."

C.S. Lewis "The problem of Pain"

So I'm reading the book "The problem of Pain" by C.S. Lewis. Here are some things I caught from the book.

"We want, in fact, not so much a Father in Heaven as a grandfather in heaven - a senil benevolence who, as they say, 'liked to see young people enjoying themselves',and whose plan for the universe was simply that it might be truly said at the end of each day, 'a good time was had by all'" ... " It is abundantly clear that I don't and since I have reason to believe, nevertheless, that God is Love I conclude that my conception of love needs correction"

He also mentions how we are made to follow God's will and that in doing so we become more human. More of what we are created to be. We are created to have our energy and our thoughts flowing out of God.

Anyways I like the book but it is a difficult read. I find myself getting tired each time I open the book but want to read more.

Galatians

So I just finished reading Galatians in the message translation. I am struck by how Paul talks about the law and working for our salvation. It seems we get stuck in our head sometimes that we have to be good to receive salvation. Sometimes I guess I forget that belief in Jesus is where it is at.

Are thoughts are us and we are our thoughts

Lately through the things I read and the people I meet I am understanding this more and more.

"We are our thoughts and our thoughts are us"

The idea what we think about, how we think about people determine our actions and our words.

I find it is nothing new

“You have heard that our ancestors were told, ‘You must not murder. If you commit murder, you are subject to judgement.’ But I say, if you are even angry with someone, you are subject to judgement! If you call someone an idiot, you are in danger of being brought before the court. And if you curse someone, you are in danger of the fires of hell.” (Matthew 5:21,22) NLT

And then the simple solution is just change our thoughts!

Lol well I am working at it, and so embark on one of the most interesting challenges of life. I embark on changing who I am.

Daniel

The more I read Daniel the more I feel like we have so much to learn from him.

In the midst of a society that did not repect God he was regarded wise and just. The same society that tried his faith and the faith of his friends (to the point of trying to take his life) he treated fairly and God blessed him for it.

We find that God is powerful to save, and powerful to lead.

So Easy

I find it so easy to fall into a mindset that I have to work for grace. I must do things when by deffinition it is given with out any conditions.

I keep thinking that I have to obey Christ to be saved. I have to be better. I have to do something.

But this is the changing power of Christ, we don't have to do a thing. God gives our redemption for free, he only askes that we follow him whereever he leads.

If we fall off the road, Jesus is always there calling us back and offering to continue the jorney. That is down right amazing! It is the power of God that changes people. It is the power of God to save people.

Makes me wonder where we get our ideas of of strengh!

I've been listening to JJ Heller recently and really liking the music you should check the music out.

Getting Better

It seems to me that things always get worse before they get better. Joseph is sold into slavery, put in prison. But thought the midst of God's plan that leads him into a place where he can be reunited with his family and save them from starvation.

Jesus had to die on the cross and I think all hope was lost for the apostles before Jesus appears to them and changes the face of history. Changes the lives of so many.

I guess it comes down to what Jesus says in the Garden of Gethsemane

Mark 14:36 “Abba,[a] Father,” he said, “everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.”

I wonder if we have pushed God out of our lives for so long that ingrained in us is the unwillingness to hear God. As if we assume that God can't speak to us because He is a mysterious person. Because he is beyond our understanding.

I wonder if we could right the wrong, and experience a world where we can hear God walking, where we can talk to him like a friend.

I think so, I've heard to many stories that say people have.

This is the challenge I have for myself these days. To trust God for everything, realizing that he provides for us, not us providing for God.

I believe that sometimes we are temped to take more than what God has given us. Sometimes I think we are temped to worry about things that God has provided for.

Dreams

I came across a dream recently.

This person dreamed that there was renovations happing that and the house they were living in was being changed. In the midst of these renovation they find an expensive gun in the wall.

This person didn't really like guns and found the dream hard to understand.

I think I have finally understood what it means for them and I think it has a really good point. One that I have forgotten, but something that God has taught me in the past.

These people were experience allot of change in there life. They have moved because they had to. There whole life has been turned around. This was happening when they had the dream.

The home renovations for these people are the physical change. The new home.

The gun represents a gift from God. A gift that they don't especially like, but it is a very valuable gift, if you see it from God's eyes because he know what we need.

It has happened in my life. God has given me things I really don't like at all. Things that are easy to hate. But I find out that God had us in mind when he gave it. He was calling me to so much more than what I was wanting. So much more than what I thought was valuable.

Doesn't mean it is any fun. It means that God is looking out for us. God is giving us what we really need.

Now is the time

2 Corinthians 6
1As God’s fellow workers we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain. 2For he says,

I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.

 "We only ___ once" I have said it, I have heard other say it. Most times I've used it is to make an excuse to spend more than I should on myself. I'm not saying that I don't like everything about this statement, but I just find we use it focus on ourselves. 

I'm not saying that "Now is the time" is the end all but I think it can push me to do what God wants me to do. Whether I feel like it or not because God knows best.
